Using worm tea on Orchids

by Veronica Anderson
(South Africa)

I have several orchids and mainly want my worm tea for use on them, can you give me a more or less amount of dilution of the worm tea.
I have been diluting one to ten litres.
I also spray with the same mix.
Thank you for this informative site.

Orchids

I have been diluting my worm tea to 10 parts water, I have only been doing this for +/- 6 weeks, I can tell you my orchids are thriving on the worm tea, my vanda that flowered in January, is in full flower again, this has never happened before and can only be due to the worm tea. I am extremely happy with the condition of my plants now that they have the right feed, I have tried many orchid fertilizers and have never had such good results.
Thank you for this wonderful site.

Hi Veronica,

Thank you for stopping by and your question. Your dilution is correct. If you want to experiment, you might even try a small amount of a 1:5 dilution on just one plant and note if you get any additional benefits of more flower production, deeper color or larger leaves. Because castings can't burn or harm plants, you won't lose anything, but you may gain some valuable info in this thing we call gardening.

I have an AV which I split and re-potted in 100% worm compost as an experiment. The plants just exploded with growth and brought up several flower stalks. The added benefit is that I don't have to water as often as the castings do such a good job of holding water.
